EuMINe DataBridge Hackathon 2026
The Federated Materials Intelligence Challenge
Are you working in Materials Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Modelling, Simulation, Data Science, or Advanced Materials?
Join the EuMINe Hackathon 2026 and become part of a European challenge focused on building interoperable AI workflows for materials discovery and engineering.
The EuMINe Hackathon is an opportunity to collaborate across disciplines, connect fragmented datasets, integrate modelling and AI approaches, and contribute to the future of federated Materials Informatics in Europe.
Participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to solve a real challenge involving:
- data integration across heterogeneous materials datasets
- AI-driven prediction of materials performance
- modelling and simulation descriptors
- FAIR data practices and reproducibility
- explainability and interoperable workflows
What is it?
Teams of 2-5 researchers from different institutions will build AI models
to predict formation energy and band gap of inorganic materials, using
data from at least two public databases (Materials Project, JARVIS, AFLOW, NOMAD, OQMD).
Two-Stage Competition
Stage 1: Remote Challenge (May-June 2026)
Teams will work online for four weeks to develop their solution, submit their workflow, technical report, and video pitch.
Stage 2: Live Final Event (Cluj-Napoca, Romania, July 2026)
The best performing teams from Stage 1 will be selected and invited to participate, with full reimbursement of their travel and living expenses, in the final live event in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where they will face the final challenge and present their solutions in person.
This is a unique opportunity to meet the EuMINe community, connect with researchers and industry experts, and showcase your work at the European level.
Who Can Participate?
We welcome:
- researchers
- PhD students
- early career investigators
